Salsa Bloomington
This site is to inform and to a certain extent offer some cultural background of Afro-Latino culture. One of the other purpose is to give as much information about Bloomington and the surrounding areas (Indiana, and Illinois) regarding to dance and cultural events, salsa lessons, Latin clubs, Latin music, and more. I am a Latin Dance instructor in Bloomington for almost 2 years. My works consist in teaching people of all ages, who desire to learn how to dance. I introduce the basics of salsa, merengue, bachata, and cha-cha-cha. The levels offered are beginners, intermediates, and advance. The group classes are done by request, and private lessons are the item that people look more frequently. Latin Dance, or more specifically salsa dance is growing tremendously in Bloomington.
"Salsa is my therapy, when I dance salsa everything around me is perfect."
- Cesar Wilson
It is more frequent to find find people who understand that Latin dance is not only for Latin descends. Although, it still challenging to disassociate Latin influence, sensuality and sexuality of the dance. I have some many stories that I could share here of situation that people never thought possible for them to be on dancing as they do today. One thing I can tell you, those who believed Latin dance was not for them are today in love with the dance. It is beautiful to see how they call themselves "salseiros," and how smooth they can be dancing salsa.
Latin dance is a type of dance that requires people to be perfectly OK with body contact, and when I say body contact, it does not mean intimacy. Anyway, I am proud and happy to see that Bloomington is growing in number of people looking for salsa, more of places to go dance, new dance studios, and more of carpoolers to Indy and Chicago. Those are results that make me happy to see the involvement with Latin dance.
It is also important to clarify the misuse of Latin Dance, or commonly called "Salsa" - it involves much more then just salsa. Latin dance includes, salsa, merengue, tango, bachata, cha-cha-cha, reggaeton, cumbia, mambo, rumba, and the list goes on. So when people mention "Salsa Dancing" can be basically salsa, merengue, bachata, cha-cha-cha, reggaeton, and mambo. It because when you go out to Latin dance, most clubs play a variety of music, not only salsa. Some places are more pure salsa, but still it is not only salsa music the all night.
